Join us Thursday October 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room for our next Edendale Up Close concert. All-cello ensemble SPLNTRD WOOD – Ian Gottlieb, Daniel Lim, Matthew Park and Jaewon Ahn – creates fresh and invigorating live music experiences with its own audacious arrangements that cross divides between musical genres. Their 2025 program, Songs Without Voices, celebrates song and melody across time and culture, reimagining classical opera, jazz, Bollywood, samba, rock, and more for up to four cellists.   Join us Tuesday September 9th at 6:00 p.m. PST on Zoom for our next Edendale Up Close concert. Katherine Marsh will discuss the piccolo and its role in classical music, illustrated by a performance of contemporary works by Gary Schocker, Herman Beeftink, and Bela Bartok, accompanied by pianist Brendan White (see full program below). The audience is encouraged to join the discussion at the end of the program. Katherine has extensive experience performing piccolo repertoire in orchestra and in solo recitals.   Edendale Up Close presents Hortus Musicus, Thursday July 17 at 6:00 p.m.  in the Edendale Library community room. Join us Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 p.m. for our next  Edendale Up Close performance – Hortus Musicus ,  featuring Dr. Paul Sherman (baroque oboe), Dr. Asunción Ojeda (baroque flute),  Dr. Adan Fernandez (harpsichord) and Jim Garafalo (viola da gamba).  They will be performing baroque trio sonatas by  Telemann, Quantz, Purcell, Dornel, and Michel de La Barre. Dr. Paul Sherman is on the faculty of Glendale Community College. He has appeared with the LA Chamber Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, Musica Angelica, and many other orchestras in California and the Southwest. Edendale Up Close presents Judicanti Responsura,   Saturday June 14 at 12:00 noon-1:00pm   in the Edendale Library community room Join us Saturday June 14, 2025   at noon for our next Edendale Up Close performance – Judicanti Responsura, featuring William Roper on lip-reeds and percussionist Joseph Mitchell . They will perform a program from their repertoire that celebrates Juneteenth, a day of freedom that came late. ‘Cause why? ‘Cause Texas. The ensemble was formed in 1984 and is focused on music of our time, with a special emphasis on compositions that incorporate African American improvisational traditions. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by its members, commissioned works, jazz standards and contemporary classical compositions.  Judicanti Responsura 's members were raised in Los Angeles' African American neighborhoods and were politicized by the experience.
