  Edendale Up Close presents Hortus Musicus, Thursday July 17 at 6:00 p.m.  in the Edendale Library community room. Join us Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 p.m. for our next  Edendale Up Close performance – Hortus Musicus ,  featuring Dr. Paul Sherman (baroque oboe), Dr. Asunción Ojeda (baroque flute),  Dr. Adan Fernandez (harpsichord) and Jim Garafalo (viola da gamba).  They will be performing baroque trio sonatas by  Telemann, Quantz, Purcell, Dornel, and Michel de La Barre. Dr. Paul Sherman is on the faculty of Glendale Community College. He has appeared with the LA Chamber Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, Musica Angelica, and many other orchestras in California and the Southwest. Edendale Up Close presents Judicanti Responsura,   Saturday June 14 at 12:00 noon-1:00pm   in the Edendale Library community room Join us Saturday June 14, 2025   at noon for our next Edendale Up Close performance – Judicanti Responsura, featuring William Roper on lip-reeds and percussionist Joseph Mitchell . They will perform a program from their repertoire that celebrates Juneteenth, a day of freedom that came late. ‘Cause why? ‘Cause Texas. The ensemble was formed in 1984 and is focused on music of our time, with a special emphasis on compositions that incorporate African American improvisational traditions. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by its members, commissioned works, jazz standards and contemporary classical compositions.  Judicanti Responsura 's members were raised in Los Angeles' African American neighborhoods and were politicized by the experience. Edendale Up Close presents the Fiato Quartet, Saturday May 24, 2025 at 12:00 noon-1:00 pm PT  in the Edendale Library community room. For our next Edendale Up Close concert, Saturday May 24th at 12:00 noon, we are excited to welcome the Fiato Quartet –  violinists Carrie Kennedy and Joel Pargman, violist Aaron Oltman, and cellist Ryan Sweeney.  They will perform  Haydn’s Quartet in E Flat Major, Op. 33, No. 2, “The Joke”,  and  Dvorak’s “American “ Quartet No. 12 in F Major, Op. 96. Fiato Quartet, winner of the 2022 Beverly Hills National Auditions, was formed in 2008. In addition to their acclaimed work as Fiato, they are also members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, New West Symphony, and Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra.   Join us at the Edendale Library Saturday May 3rd at 12:00 noon for a concert by The Chamber Players of Los Angeles, featuring Satik Andriassian (guitar), John M. Kennedy (bass), Jacqueline Suzuki (violin) and Patrick Marsh (viola). The Players will perform works for guitar and strings, including pieces by János Fusz, John M. Kennedy, and Franz Schubert. Edendale Up Close Concert, Tuesday February 25th at 6:00 p.m. on Zoom – Pianist Nancy Fierro presents From Salon to Saloon Join us Tuesday February 25th at 6:00 p.m. PST on Zoom for a delightful concert of classical and ragtime piano music – From Salon to Saloon, presented by Los Angeles pianist Nancy Fierro. Her program includes Romantic works by Chopin’s most famous predecessor Maria Agata Szymanowska, as well as a beautiful musical impression of Lake Wallenstadt by Franz Liszt and Claude Debussy’s dream-like “Clair de Lune” and 1890’s Ballad. To conclude the program, we will hear funky rags by two of America’s best ragtime composers, May Aufderheide and George L. Cobb. Enjoy the interactive discussion of the music following the concert. Nancy has played concerts both nationally and internationally.
