For our next Edendale Up Close concert, we are excited to present Ranchera ‘22 (Aaron MF Olson and ensemble), performing synthesizer interpretations of the songs of legendary singer-songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez, whose work starting in the 1940s helped create the ranchera style of Mexican music.
This is the space-age bachelor pad version, and I promise you it is delightful!
Ranchera ‘22 is the brainchild of my friend Aaron MF Olson, who in addition to working at the Silverlake Branch Library, is a multi-instrumentalist who leads many forward-thinking musical projects including L.A. Takedown, Richard Pictures, and the Musical Tracing Ensemble just to name a few. You can listen to them online at his Ranchera ‘22 Bandcamp page (and buy the digital album too if you like).
Don’t miss this totally unique and wonderful group! You’ve never heard anything like it, but you’ll be hooked on synth rancheras when you do.
The Edendale library address is 2011 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
but enter from the Alvarado St. side through the library parking lot.
