HORTUS MUSICUS Thursday JULY 17 at 6:00-7:00pm: Free Edendale Library Up Close Concerts


 

Edendale Up Close presents Hortus Musicus, Thursday July 17 at 6:00 p.m. 
in the Edendale Library community room.


Join us Thursday, July 17 at 6:00 p.m. for our next 

Edendale Up Close performance – Hortus Musicus

featuring Dr. Paul Sherman (baroque oboe), Dr. Asunción Ojeda (baroque flute), 

Dr. Adan Fernandez (harpsichord) and Jim Garafalo (viola da gamba). 

They will be performing baroque trio sonatas by 

Telemann, Quantz, Purcell, Dornel, and Michel de La Barre.


Dr. Paul Sherman is on the faculty of Glendale Community College. He has appeared with the LA Chamber Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, Musica Angelica, and many other orchestras in California and the Southwest. Flutist 


Dr. Asunción Ojeda has performed with various California ensembles, including the Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra, Nimbus Ensemble, and the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra. She is currently a musicianship instructor with the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, was recently an adjunct lecturer at CSU Long Beach, and was a music teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District Arts Education Branch. She is also an active member of World Kulintang Institute Ensemble, an organization devoted to the preservation of traditional kulintang music from the southern Philippines.


Dr. Adan Fernandez is the artistic director of the Glendale Youth Symphony, director of music at Holy Family Catholic Church, and is on the faculty of both the Colburn School and Glendale Community College. 


As a bassist, Jim Garafalo has played on many TV and film scores, and has performed with local orchestras such as the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic and the Santa Monica Symphony. On viola da gamba he  worked extensively with flutist Tony Brazier and the late harpsichordist Suzanne Shapiro. He has also performed with Suite Royale, the Los Angeles Baroque Players, and Ergo Musica.
